Once known as a gap-filler format that existed to occupy the fallow musical ground between two stations in a market, hot AC has come into its own as one of radio’s fastest-growing formats. It’s also become more musically aggressive. New Mediabase analysis prepared for Inside Radio shows more new acts charted at hot AC in the first three months of 2012 and 2013 than in any other first quarter since at least 2004.
